Virgin Holidays has three values for
their people to adopt.
Virgin Atlantic has one brand idea,
nine values and four behaviours,
eight if you’re a leader.
If we want our values to live on in our
actions and conversations, they need
to be simple, clear and memorable.
We spent time last year speaking to you about what it
should feel like to work here and we really appreciate
how open you were.
We were surprised and reassured to see the same themes
coming back, regardless of where people worked.
We know we need to better articulate what we value as
we complete our final year of the Plan to Win and look to
the future.
We’ll be talking to you more about this later in 2018.

Celebrating
great moments
We all have a choice to create amazing experiences for our
customers and each other, through our mind-set and what
we value.
By recognising, sharing and awarding examples of people living
what we value, we hope to bring our values in to our daily
conversations.
We already have some great examples of this from across the
business and we want to do more to celebrate these moments.
We’re working to have a recognition scheme, that links to our
values, in place for everyone by the end of the summer.
We’ll be hosting our first annual recognition awards to
showcase the best of those living our values later this year.
Recognising and awarding people for their great work is a
focus for us and we’ll be sharing more on our benefit review
later this year.
We’re investing in a new way of helping
our people leaders be the best they can
be – so they can help each of us to flourish.
Our Flourish programme focuses on being
aware of your mind set as a leader, to help
create an environment for your teams that
allows people to be valued for who they are
and the strengths they bring and ultimately,
to perform at their best.
By the end of the year, over 1300 of our
people leaders will have benefited from
this unique training.

Developing
our leaders
In addition to the Flourish programme, we are
creating a pathway for leaders with access to skills
development and tools to become an affective
people centred leader.
Following the success of the Emerging Leaders
programme in Virgin Holidays, we’re also looking
at how we can evolve this to support Virgin Atlantic’s
emerging leaders and their development through
an apprenticeship.
We’ve also launched a mentoring programme for
aspiring leaders and Springboard; a programme
to provide confidence and support to encourage
more women to take the step in to leadership roles.

Our leaders are key to creating the right environment
for our people to be at their best.
Encouraging the right conversations allows all our people
to understand how their role makes a difference as well as
shaping how they feel about working here.
In addition to our existing courses that support leaders
in have the right conversations, our leaders need to be
able to remove conflict within their teams. Talk it Out
is an initiative being launched soon, helping us to learn
from each other and resolve our differences in a way
that builds trust.
But we all have a role to play. So whether it’s your
development, a concern or an idea, speak to your
manager and get a conversation started.

The time you spend with us is just one part of your busy
life and we understand that in order for you to be at your
best we need to be considering the whole you.
Using your feedback, we’re reviewing all of our benefits
to ensure that you feel valued and rewarded for your hard
work. There will be more to come on this later in the year.
We’re also looking at ways in which we can offer you
support to achieve your own personal wellbeing. By looking
after your mental, physical and financial health, through
tools and advice available to you from our professional
partners, we hope that you will be able to feel that you can
be at your best and bring your whole self to work.

Diversity and inclusion
The diversity of our people was a focus when we announced our
gender pay gap in March – but our plans live well beyond this.
We want Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays to be a place you
can bring your true self to work.
Ensuring we are inclusive, appreciating all differences, with
gender and ethnicity representation reflective of who we are,
and who our customers are.
Our ambitions by 2022:
That 50% of our leaders are female
To double our Black, Asian and minority ethnic diversity

By working with people leaders to create an inclusive
environment, we hope that everyone feels that they can
bring their true selves to work and fulfil their potential.
And fulfilling your potential includes you taking a lead
role in your career development. To help you, we’re
developing career pathways in each area. This will allow
you to see the roles we have across the business that
match your skills set.
So whether you’re looking for promotion and the steps
you need to qualify or if you fancy something new in a
sideways move, you’ll be able to use the career pathway
to identify what might be suitable for you. You can then
seek guidance and support from your manager to find
out how you can make this happen.
